Around 700 Andalucían dairy farmers are in Madrid today to protest against the decline in the home price of milk.
According to the agricultural associations, the milk industry is losing about €3.5 million each month and as many as 12,000 jobs are at serious risk due to the low price being paid to the producers.
The protesters want to see more government regulation, such as has been occuring in other vulnerable industries. At the moment, for example, France is over-producing milk, exceeding the quota set by the European Union, and this surplus is finding its way to Spain. The dairy farmers would like to such situations being more closely monitored.
