Construction of the new Palace of Justice in Vélez-Málaga is now complete, it just remains for the building to be officially transferred to the Ministry of Justice and for it to be suitably furnished.
The new building has six courts, although at the present time there are only four judges. However, a fifth judge is expected to be appointed in December.
The new Palace of Justice, build at a cost of €5.5 million, is located in calle Huerto Carrión, next to the Oficina Comarcal Agraria. The official inauguration is expected to take place in May and it is hoped that it can start to be used as from July.
Currently, Vélez-Málaga has four courts, two located in the Palace of Justice next to the market and two others in a residential complex. The Council is hoping to get permission to use the old Palace of Justice, located in plaza de San Francisco, for municipal purposes and has sent a request to the Junta de Andalucía.
