Figures published by the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Commerce show that, in April, the price of beans, lettuce, whiting and roosters went down, but the price of tomatoes, green peppers and sardines went up.
The price of green beans was apparently down by 12.42%, lettuce by 5.47%, whiting 4.76% and roosters 3.23%. On the other hand, salad tomatoes went up by 7.47%, green peppers 4.51% and sardines 2.51%,
Packaged foods were also up and down in price, although less markedly than those for fresh food. Sunflower oil was down by 3.35%, olive oil by 1.35% and wheat flour 1.02%. The price of packaged tomatoes went up by 1.31%.
We all notice the general increase in the cost of our regular weekly shopping, the question is, does anyone notice these small price decreases? The total shopping bill certainly never seems to go down.
Robbie says:
Our weekly shop bill used to be really high. Like 60~70€ for two young adults.
We have made some changes to what we buy nowadays and things have gotten much cheaper.
But other then what we have done to lower our bill I had assumed that all food prices had gone up.
Sometimes I wish I could get my weekly shop from the UK. I bet I’d be getting it half the price!
