The Minister of Industry, Tourism and Trade, Miguel Sebastián, has announced that Plan 200E, a measure to help the automobile industry, will come into effect on Monday.
Motorists will get at least €1,500 (€500 from the government, €1,000 from the car manufacturers) towards the purchase price of a car. Assistance to a maximum of €2000 will be available, this to be €500 from the government, €500 from the regional authority and €1,000 from the car manufacturers.
There are to be 200,000 such ‘transactions’ available and will apply to anyone buying a car up to the value of €30,000 and, in return, scrapping one which is over ten years old. The scheme will run for one year.
If they can do this, why not just reduce the purchase price of the cars?
