At a meeting yesterday of the provincial Partido Popular to discuss the upcoming European elections, the provincial president, Elías Bendodo, described Nerja as a ‘forgotten’ municipality as far as the PSOE controlled Junta de Andalucía was concerned.
Elías Bendodo stated that, whilst the Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, had made great efforts for the town since being elected in 1995, all major projects had been blocked. He cited the marina, golf course, water treatment plant and development of the Maro-Cerro Gordo natural park as prime examples.
He urged the Junta de Andalucía to accept that Nerja was ‘on the map’ and cease making promises which are then subsequently broken.
Bendedo was also critical of the PSOE for putting the PSOE spokesman as head of the Nerja Caves Foundation, not to manage but to provide opposition to the Nerja Council.
