Raffaele Amato, one of the heads of the Naples Camorra, has been arrested in Marbella.
Amato, aged 44 years, has been on the run since 2006 after fleeing his native Italy when indicted for murder. He was at a restaurant with relatives when police found him and made the arrest.
Raffaele Amato is head of what is considered one of the most dangerous clans in the Camorra. In 2004/2005, he fought a turf war with the rival Di Lauro clan, coming out on top and increasing his sphere of influence. The clan Amato now controls the Scampia district in Naples and also the areas of Arzano, Casavatore, Mugnano and Melito
The arrest came as part of a joint operation between the Spanish and Italian police forces.
