The residents of Maro are getting tired of waiting for the provincial authorities to repair the bridge over the arroyo El Arco and the access road to the beach. Summer is almost here and nothing has been done.
The area was devastated by the floods in September 2007, when 200 litres of water fell in just four hours. In the aftermath of the flood, the Provincial Council did repair the main road in the area, considered the most urgent priority, pledging to carry out further repairs at a later date.
The project was allocated funds of €100,000, of which €63,820 was used for the phase one repairs.
The Nerja Council has made several requests to the provincial authorities to complete the repairs as the situation not only affect local residents and farmers, but also has a detrimental affect on the tourism in the area. The residents of Maro are being encouraged to submit letters to the Provincial Council asking them to expedite matters.
The repair work was actually due to start six months ago, but the company awarded the contract decided to go into receivership. Since that time there has been no news from Málaga.
