Eleven years and €307 million later, Granada is now finally connected to the coast by highway, the last section now being complete.
The public will be able to use the new section, Izbor to Vélez de Benaudalla, as from Friday May 22nd.
The project has suffered countless delays and, in 2006, the collapse of one of the viaducts. The terrain is varied and rugged and the construction of the highway, including the tunnels, has been an engineering feat of great magnitude.
It will now be possible to get from Granada to Motril in about 40 minutes. It will also shorten the journey from Nerja to Granada for those visiting the magnificent Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens.
