The ICU at a hospital in Jaén has introduced a new initiative called ‘Visit your Baby’ whereby parents of premature babies can keep an eye on their newborn infants day and night if they so wish.
Apart from normal visiting hours, parents will be able to watch their babies via webcams. Ten rooms in the ICU have been fitted with webcams as part of a pilot project called ‘Humanización de la Atención Perinatal’ – Humanisation of Perinatal Care.
Access to real-time images are via a password system. Parents can, if they so desire, give the password to relatives but only the actual parents will actually be issued with a password.
If the scheme proves successful, it is proposed to extend it to other hospitals in Andalucía.
