The Eagle Aquaduct, designated a monument of cultural interest (BIC), could finally be about to get a facelift after years of talk. It’s a definite possible maybe at the moment.
The late 18th century monument has been owned by the Council since February 28th 2005 and there has been much talk of renovating this tourist attraction.
Under the Iniciativa de Turismo Sostenible de la Axarquía – Initiative for Sustainable Tourism in the Axarquia -, one of the numerous funding plans, the Nerja Council put forward three projects for consideration. These were an auditorium in the Parque Verano Azul, renovation of the Burriana beach promenade and restoration of the Eagle Aquaduct.
The Junta de Andalucía has now stated that the only project it will agree to is the restoration of the Eagle Aquaduct and will provide 70% of the necessary funds. The Council is proposing to ask the provincial Department of Culture for the remaining 30% of the budgeted cost of the project.
