Times Square in New York is in for a change as from today, with much of it becoming car-free.
Notorious for traffic jams, cars are banned on Broadway between 42nd street and 47th street at Times Square and 33rd street and 35th Streets at Herald Square.
Pedestrianised plazas will become the order of the day and the move is hoped to reduce pollution, reduce the number of accidents involving pedestrians, help businesses and, in general, make it a more relaxing area for shoppers and tourists.
