On Monday June 1st, The Councilor for Education and Culture, Angélica Portillo, will attend the official opening of an exhibition of patchwork art made by the women of the Nerjeñas Arte y Aguja (Art and Needlecraft) society.
The patchwork group consists of Lucía, Cecilia, Isabel, Clara, Ana, Loli, Encarni and Mari Carmen, and the ladies will be explaining the techniques used to make the various articles, such as quilts, handbags, carpets, shirts and pillow cases.
Patchwork, or almazuela as it is known in the Hispanic world, began in La Rioja in the 17th century.
The opening ceremony is at 13:00 on Monday and the exhibition is open to the general public from 19:00. It takes place in the Sala Municipal de Exposiciones in calle Cristo and continues until June 12th.
