Barcelona thwarted Manchester United’s bid to become the first team to defend the Champions League, winning the match 2-0 to complete the treble of La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League.
Man Utd started brightly, dominating the first nine minutes but also squandering a few chances to score. Then, against the run of play, Samuel Eto’o took full advantage of some sloppy defending and put Barcelona into the lead. From then on, Barca dominated, particularly in midfield, controlling the game with relative ease.
Lionel Messi had a great game for Barcelona and it was probably quite fitting that he scored the second goal, heading in a corner kick past van der Saar.
