The PP Council has branded the Opposition PP spokesman, Ángel Ramírez, as ‘incompetent’ in his role as manager of the Nerja Caves Foundation and intend to seek his removal.
The Council intend to submit a written request to Hilario López Luna at the Junta de Andalucía for the dismissal of Ramírez as the manager of the Nerja Caves Foundation.
This latest row stems from a debate at the recent Council plenary session relating to the tendering of the contract to equip the new Nerja History Museum. The spokesman for the PP, José Miguel García, stated that putting the contract out to tender before the necessary financing has been finalised would be illegal and accused Ángel Ramírez of incompetence for not having already sorted out the money side of things.
He also stated that the delays experienced with the museum project are also down to Ángel Ramírez, adding that he does not work in the interests of the Caves Foundation but is solely dedicated to opposition to the Council.
Ángel Ramírez responded, surprisingly, by saying that José Miguel García was ‘useless’ and didn’t know what he was doing. He added that the financing would be through a loan, a grant or by using Nerja Caves Foundation funds and they were only waiting for a decision on which method would ultimately be used.
Ramírez added that he does not anticipate any delay in proceedings and expects the tender to go out in June and for the museum to open in 2010 as planned.
The tendering motion, incidentally, was approved by the Council but with the proviso that the cash must be available when the process begins.
It is no secret that the Council has long since wanted control of the Nerja Caves Foundation and, as a result, it has become somewhat of a political football. A shame.
Both parties agree on the aim, the construction of a museum, just a pity they can’t sit down and discuss the best way to achieve this aim without making it party political.
