No exhumation at Civil War burial site thought to contain the remains of Federico García Lorca

For the time being at least, there will be no exhumations carried out at the Civil War burial site thought to contain the remains, amongst others, of the poet Federico García Lorca.

The Magistrate’s Court in Granada has refused to assume responsibility for any such order by not recognising the November 2008 ruling declaring judge Baltasar Garzón ‘not competent to institute the investigation of disappearances during the Civil War and Franco period’.

It is thought that the High Court may now ask the Supreme Court for a ruling on the matter to decide which of the courts is actually responsible for such issues.

The mass grave is believed to contain the remains of bullfighter Francisco Galadí, republican Dióscoro Galindo, Joaquín Arcollasand the poet Federico García Lorca.
