The consumer group FACUA has been carrying out a survey of around 670 bars in 21 cities in Andalucía in relation to the conservation of food, hygiene, information, accessibility to users with limited mobility and compliance with the tobacco laws.
The results of this survey:
- 48% of bars have no visible price list.
- 43.7% had a price list but it was hidden from sight amongst the drinks.
- 28% did not either place food items under a glass cover or wrap them in a suitable covering, thus opening up the possibility of food poisoning.
- General cleanliness was ‘acceptable’ in 44.3% of cases, ‘unacceptable’ in 5.3% and ‘very good’ or ‘excellent’ in 50.4% of cases.
- The cleanliness of toilets was ‘acceptable’ in 44.3% of cases, ‘unacceptable’ in 11.5% and ‘very good’ or ‘excellent’ in 44.1% of cases.
- 10.5% of toilets had no paper, 14.2% had no soap and 7.6% had no seat.
- 7.9% of toilets were also used as storage areas.
- 27.8% of bars had a high step at the entrance which inhibits access by the less mobile members of the community.
