The Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, has described the announcement by the Junta de Andalucía that work on the water treatment plant will begin this year as ‘outrageous’ and ‘absurd’, stating that this was done purely in connection with the upcoming European elections.
The Mayor pointed out that even the preliminary report has not yet been published and that the socialists were once again making promises which they will not be able to keep. The Mayor lamented that, at the current rate of progress, Nerja will be lucky to have a treatment plant by 2020.
José Alberto Armijo was also critical of another election-timed announcement concerning the boosting of the rail system along the Costa del Sol. He said that all the talk related only to the stretch between Málaga to Marbella, reminding everyone that the Costa del Sol also goes from Nerja to Manilva.
He added that the PP would not accept a tram system for this part of the coast and, if they were to gain power, they would install a high speed train service.
On the subject of coastline renovation, the Mayor was once again critical of the socialists, saying that eighteen months ago, €44 million was promised for the stabilisation of the beaches but only €2 million has so far been received.
Methinks there could be more than one party engaging in electoral rhetoric.
