A fire has destroyed about four hectares of scrub land in the Cerro de la Coscoja area on the Torrox-Frigiliana border.
The blaze started at around 20:00 on Monday evening and at one stage it was feared that the high winds would cause the fire to spread and threaten nearby dwellings. Also under possible threat was the hotel Los Caracoles, situated above the ravine where the fire actually started.
However, firefighters and police, with helicopter support, managed to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading any further.
The fire was apparently caused by the unauthorised burning of stubble. One man was slightly injured as he attempted to put out the fire and needed hospital treatment for burns to his hand.
