The second vice president and Minister of Economy and Finance, Elena Salgado, has stated that, at the present time, there are no savings banks suffering from ‘special problems’ which would require state intervention.
The Minister added that if the crisis continues, however, the situation may change and some may require a cash injection, although no specific cases have so far been identified.
The Minister was speaking at the monthly meeting of eurozone Finance Ministers.
Salgado also stated that the Bank of Spain is in regular contact with the savings banks and is carrying out ‘stress tests’ on an ongoing basis.
