An Israeli woman decided to surprise her mother by buying her some new bedding, throwing out the old mattress and replacing it with a brand new one.
She then told her mum what she had been up to, expecting to see her smile. Instead, mum almost fainted as she informed her daughter that the mattress contained her life savings, almost $1 million. Oops.
Rushing outside, they found that the rubbish had already been removed – obviously not a fortnightly service like the UK . The pair have so far searched three local landfill sites but have failed to find any trace of the mattress bank yet.
Although still searching for the money, the mum is apparently quite philosopical about the episode (she’d need to be!), saying that she’s been through worse situations and that you have to accept the good and the bad in life. Admirable concept.
