The Nerja Council is committed to supporting the continued presence of beach chiringuitos in both Nerja and the whole province according to the PP spokesman José Miguel García.
The Councilor stated that the Council is doing all it can to help legalise the situation of the chiringuitos, seen as an integral part of the tourist industry along the coast as well as providing much employment in the province.
At a meeting of the Congress of Deputies on Tuesday, a PP motion to ‘regularise’ all the chiringuitos along the Costa del Sol was defeated by the PSOE, IU and ERC. The PP were seeking to amend a PSOE motion, suggesting that each bar be considered separately on a case by case basis rather than collectively.
José Miguel García also stated that he believes the PSOE do not intend to renew the licenses of the existing chiringuitos which will damage the tourist industry and cost thousands of jobs.
