The inevitable has happened and Ronaldo looks very much like he is on his way to Real Madrid after a year of speculation, rumour and, at times, heated discussions between Manchester United and Real.
Having already surpassed the transfer record in acquiring the services of Brazilian playmaker Kaka for a reported £56 million, they look set to capture Ronaldo for an estimated £80. The offer appears to have been accepted by Manchester United, it just remains for the fine details to be concluded.
According to reports, the sale was solely the decision of manager Sir Alex Ferguson and not based on the financial needs of the club. It is thought the money will be made available to him for the purchase of other players.
