A temporary agreement between the business sector and the Department of Coasts will allow the existing chiringuitos to keep their existing terraces, espeteros and hammocks until the end of the year without running the risk of being fined.
Around 300 chiringuito owners gathered outside the offices of the Department of Coasts whilst inside, businessmen and bar owners met with representatives of the Central Government. After three hours of discussion, the temporary agreement was announced.
This does not, of course, solve the ongoing problem, merely pushes it ahaead a few months, but it does at least remove the threat of sanctions which had been hanging over the heads of the chiringuito owners.
