The Council has awarded the contract to build new offices for the Social Services Department and work should begin within 30 days.
The contract has been awarded to Orvadesa S. A. and, following the signing of the agreement, the company has one month in which to begin the work. If all goes to plan (?), the new building should be ready in seven or eight months.
The project has a budget of €528,000 and is being funded by the municipality (40%) and the Junta de Andalucía. The location of the new offices is a 600 square metre Council owned plot of land behind the Mercadona supermarket, parallel to calle San Miguel.
The building will be two storeys high with several basement areas.
According to the Councilor for Social Services, Angélica Portillo, the department is involved with new features and services almost on a daily basis and therefore they now require bigger offices.
In the meantime, the Department of Social Services has moved to temporary accommodation in the Giner de los Rios Centre in calle Diputación, premises formerly occupied by the Patronato de Recaudación (Tax Office).
