The Councilor for Equality and Social Welfare, Micaela Navarro, has said that the man who deliberately set fire to a house in La Linea, in which a woman died and two children were seriously injured, had threatened to carry out this action just the day before.
Speaking to reporters, she said the women had been ‘brutally murdered’ and that the situation could have become even more tragic, referring to the injuries suffered by the children and various other people during the blaze.
Micaela Navarro added that, in many cases, women do not report threats for fear of violent repercussions but stressed that they should report such things to the authorities because, as was shown in this particular case, the threats are more often than not actually carried out.
Meanwhile, the man accused of setting fire to the house in the La Atunara of La Línea de la Concepción has appeared in court on charges of murder and attempted murder. He has been remanded in custody.
In addition to the woman who died in the fire, two children are in hospital in a ‘critical’ condition and both require mechanical ventilation. The 19 year old has burns to 42% of her body, the two year old girl has burns to 20% of her body.
