A 23 month old baby has undergone emergency surgery at the Hospital Puerta del Mar in Cádiz after being bitten in the face by a dog.
The incident occurred at the San José campsite in Barbate where the dog was tied to a post. The young girl suffered wounds to the lower face and one eyelid and has undergone reconstruction surgery on the eyelid. She is apparently not in a life-threatening situation and there is no danger of her losing her vision. As for the surgery on the eyelid, it is a question of wait and see how it progresses.
The offending dog was securely tied to a post and, according to the campsite owners, there was no breach of the ban on dogs in campsites during the high season as the official start date of the prohibition is July 1st.
