Three people have been detained this morning on suspicion of being members of the Basque separatist organisation ETA.
The detentions took place on an industrial estate in Usurbil (Guipúzcoa). The detainees are linked to a series of attacks against the proposed high-speed train service (TAV) in the Basque region and are thought to have links with Jurdan Martitegi, the ETA military commander arrested in France last April.
The investigation is being headed by judge Baltasar Garzón. None of those detained this morning are thought to have any connection with the car bomb attack in Arrigorriaga last Friday which ended the life of National Police Inspector Eduardo Puelles.
Police offices discovered 70 kilos of explosives at the premises where two of the detainees were located.
