The installation of sonic barriers along a stretch of the A-7 in Maro is almost complete, seven years after the project was first planned.
The construction of the A-7 highway in 2002 left a number of houses, located within 50 metres of this busy road, with somewhat of a noise problem. Most were forced to leave windows permanently closed, even in the heat of summer, to avoid intolerable noise levels.
The construction of the sonic barriers was part of the original highway project, but never happened. The residents complained on numerous occasions and finally, in July 2008, the Socialist MP for Málaga and Málaga provincial secretary of the PSOE, Miguel Ángel Heredia, announced the ‘immediate’ commencement of work to install the barriers.
The ‘immediate’ start of work turned out to be the end of January 2009, but it is almost complete now and, hopefully, residents in the area should soon be able to get a good night’s sleep.
The project has cost a total of €210,000 and has been funded in its entirity by the Ministry of Development.
