Telefonica is set to consolidate the rates applicable to metropolitan and provincial calls to landlines, which means there will then only be two domestic tariffs, provincial and inter-provincial.
The change comes into effect on October 1st 2009.
The new tarriffs mean, in essence, that metropolitan calls will be more expensive, but provincial calls will be up to 64% cheaper. Calls to a number in the same province will cost 1.5 cents per minute during business hours (08:00 -20:00 Monday to Friday).
The new charges only apply to those casual users who have no special contract or agreement with Telefonica. Those who have things such as ADSL, Duos, Trios, discount vouchers or flat-fee contracts, and there are around 5 million such subscribers, will see no change in their bills.
