Three more ETA members have been detained in France in a collaborative effort between French and Spanish police forces.
Asier Borrero, Itziar Plaza and Iurgi Garitagoitia were arrested as they came out of a McDonald’s restaurant in the French town of Pau. All three were armed.
The three detainees are all on the Guardia Civil ‘most wanted’ list.
Asier Borrero and Itziar Plaza are believed to have been involved in the shooting of a French policeman in Saint-Énimie on June 8th. They were trying to steal a car at the time of the incident.
Asier Borrero Toribio, a 24 year old, was on the run following the disbanding of the ‘comando Vizcaya’ and is wanted in connection with a car bomb attacck against a Guardia Civil barracks in Calahorra (La Rioja) in March 2008, a bomb in Zarauz in September 2007 and for the placement of several explosive devices in the homes of people in the towns of Balmaseda and Derio in Vizcaya.
Iurgi Garitagoitia, aged 25 years, is linked to the assassination of the former Socialist councilman Isaias Carrasco in Arrasate-Mondragón (Guipúzcoa) in March 2008 and is suspected of involvement in the attack that killed businessman Gipuzkoa Ignacio Uria in December 2008.
Itziar Plaza, a 26 year old native of Bilbao, has been on the run since 2005 .
