An interesting survey carried out by the travel company Expedia tags French tourists as being the worst in the world! They are classed as penny-pinching, rude and terrible at languages.
The survey was conducted by Expedia, who asked 4,500 hotels worldwide to rank tourists on their behaviour. Japanese tourists (clean and tidy, polite, quiet and uncomplaining) came top of the list for the third year running.
The French did, however, rank third when it came to elegance, discretion and cleanliness.
The Americans were winners in the ‘generosity’ stakes, being the biggest spenders and the most lavish tippers, but failed rather miserably in other areas, being branded the least tidy, the loudest, the worst complainers and the worst dressed.
And British tourists? Well, on a worldwide scale, British tourists came in second overall behind the Japanese, being ajudged favourably on behaviour, politeness, quietness and elegance (second for dress sense behind the Italians!).
On a European scale, however, the hoteliers ranked British tourists as ‘the worst’. There is obviously a big difference between those traveling to Europe and those going farther afield.
In the ‘worst overall’ category, France had some major competition from both Spanish and Greek tourists according to the survey.
According to the Expedia survey, the Top Ten Best Tourists Worldwide list looks like this:
- Japan
- Britain
- Canada
- Germany
- Switzerland
- Holland
- Australia
- Sweden
- USA
- Denmark
