The presidents of Unicaja and Caja de Jaén, Braulio Medel and José Antonio Arcos, have been meeting to discuss a merger between the two savings banks.
Such a merger would help to ensure the survival of both savings banks and give them a combined turnover of €50 million. At least in the short term, both would maintain their current identities, although this would more than likely change in the future.
The idea to merge is not a result of any external pressure or financial interests but is a private operation seen by the respective banks as a good solution for the banks themselves, their customers and staff.
