A forest fire continues to burn in Almería which has already resulted in around 400 people being evacuated from their homes.
The fire, which began around midday on Tuesday, is in the pine forests of the Sierra Cabrera and has been threatening homes in the towns of Turre and Mojácar. So far, about 1,500 hectares of scrub and pine forest have been destroyed.
On Tuesday afternoon, as the flames continued to spread, the fire was declared ‘level two’ and reinforcements were drated in from the Moron de la Frontera military base in Sevilla. Some 50 personnel from the Military Emergency Unit then joined the local firefighters.
The fire is now under control, but is still burning. The blaze is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike in the area.
