The Nerja Council has formally assumed control of the Rio Chillar walkway following the successful completion of several remedial works carried out by the Ministry of Environment.
The €4 million project, funded by the Ministry of Environment (75%) and the Nerja Council (25%), has taken several years to complete and has been beset by problems.
The major features of the project are a large channel for the river, cycle paths on either side, a walkway and a large leisure area.
It would, of course, be nice if there was some water in the river. However, it is a very dry climate in the coastal region and there are very few, if any, of the streams or rivers in the area managing a constant flow of water.
