The Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, this morning awarded the Cruz de Oro (Gold Cross), the highest distinction of the Guardia Civil, to the two officers killed yesterday in the bomb attack in Palmanova, Calvià.
The Prime Minister placed the medals on the coffins of the two officers at the Palacio de la Almudaina in Palma with relatives of the two men in attendance. Also present in the chapel were the Dukes of Palma, the infanta Cristina and Iñaki de Urdangarín, the infanta Elena, leader of the opposition Mariano Rajoy and the Interior Minister Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba.
After the funeral service, which will be in Palma cathedral and presided over by the Príncipes de Asturias, the bodyof officer Diego Salva will be buried in Palma and the body of officer Carlos Saenz de Tejada García will be transferred to Burgos for burial at the express wish of his family.
