A few countries in the world, not many, have taken the step of banning the use of wild animals in circuses, but one country has now taken the next step by banning the use of all animals, wild or domestic.
The new law, introduced on July 1st, states that the use of any animal in a circus constitutes animal cruelty and offenders risk a fine and the confiscation of the animals.
One problem with circus animals is that once they have outlived their usefulness, they are just ‘eliminated’. And the country, believed to be the first, where this is happening? Probably wouldn’t be your first thought by any means.
It’s….Bolivia.
