Estepona Council is looking to cancel the current contract for the Reina Sofía project and start again with a new contractor.
Work on the Sports Centre Reina Sofía in Estepona has been at a standstill for the past eight months after the contractor got into financial difficulties.
The foundation stone for the new centre was laid on February 24th 2007, although work on the building didn’t actually begin until August, not an auspicious start to the €6.5 million project. The completion period was set at eleven months.
The Council now wants to terminate the agreement with Estesport Centros Deportivos SL on the grounds of breach of contract and re-tender the project. The centre is already way behind schedule and it is only half finished.
