According to a report by Frontur, some 30 million foreign tourists visited Spain during the first seven months of this year, a fall of 10.3% over the same period last year.
- UK visitors: 7.72 million (down 16.2%)
- German visitors: 5.2 million (down 10%)
- French visitors: 4.6 million (down 5%)
- Scandinavian visitors: 2 million (down 7%)
- Italian visitors: 1.7 million (down 6.6%)
Almost all of the provinces suffered a downturn in the number of foreign visitors.
- Cataluña: 7.5 million visitors (down 12%)
- Baleares: 5.2 million visitors (down 7.3%)
- Andalucia: 4.6 million visitors (down 11.3%)
- Canary Islands: 4.6 million visitors (down 14.7%)
Just over 70% of foreign tourists arrived in Spain outside the ‘package holiday’ environment with the vast majority choosing a hotel as their preferred accommodation. Holiday rental properties suffered a 4.4% decrease in popularity.
