Marbella is beginning the process of legalising the status of the numerous beach ‘chiringuitos’ following the change of policy towards such establishments by the central government.
Some thirty bars in Marbella itself are affected by the new rules and fifteen will have to adjust their location, mostly just by a few metres, to comply with the law relating to public domain land.
In addition to location, size is also a matter to be resolved. All the bars in Marbella and further along the coast exceed the maximum permitted surface area of 150 square metres.
This is just the first stage in the process to legalise the bars. Various reports have to be submitted and then concessions have to be approved by the Department of Coasts.
