A woman died in Barcelona in the early hours of Sunday morning after allegedly being stabbed by her partner. The man then attempted to commit suicide.
The incident occurred at around 00:45 on Sunday morning at the family home in the Llefió district of Badalona, Barcelona. Manuel Salvador F.Z., a 47 year old Colombian national, stabbed his partner, also a Colombian national, several times in the abdomen. He then tried to commit suicide using the same knife.
The Emergency Services arrived on the scene but all attempts to resuscitate the woman ended in failure. Manuel Salvador F.Z. was rushed to the Hospital Can Ruti in Badalona where he remained in police custody while medical staff treated wounds to various parts of his body. His condition is not said to be life-threatening.
There was no prior history of violence or abuse within the family and no restraining orders were in operation.
This is the 36th domestic fatality in Spain so far this year, with 27 being Spanish and 9 being foreigners. Andalucía is the region with the most domestic fatalities, nine, followed by Cataluña with seven.
