Unemployment in Spain rose by 2.4% in August, making an official total of 3,629,080 people without jobs.
The rise follwed three months of small decreases in the unemployment figures, these due in the main to seasonal hiring for the summer holiday period.
August is traditionally a month in which unemployment rises and the Government is taking consolation from the fact that this yea’r increase of 84,985 is less than last year’s record figure of 103,085. Nevertheless, this year is the second worst set of figures since the Government began collecting such statistics.
