On September 11th 2006, a 16 year old girl was shot and seriously injured by her boyfriend outside a Junta de Andalucía juvenile protection centre in Rute, Córdoba. On September 1st 2009, the girl died.
The boyfriend, who was 21 years old at the time, persuaded the girl to leave the sanctuary of the centre and meet him at the gates of the facility. He then shot her, her injuries leaving her a quadriplegic.
The boyfriend has spent the intervening years in jail awaiting trial on a charge of attempted manslaughter, but that could now change following the death of the girl. No date has yet been set for any trial.
