Nerjeño José Cánovas has been competing in the first race in the World Cup Kayak-1 (K-1) where he won the ‘veterans’ category.
The race was held in the waters around the Portuguese Madeira Islands. It is the first time that Cánovas has competed for Spain in the World Cup. When not competing, he can be found training on El Playazo beach,
There are still several races to go, these being held in different parts of the world.
Canovas said it is a very demanding discipline involving paddling 25 kilometres a day in seas with waves up to four metres high and that just to finish a race is a challenge.
On Wednesday, José Cánovas met with the Councilor for Sports, Andrés Márquez and was congratulated on his achievement.
