A fire which started after a Mirage F1 crashed in the Natural Park of Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas this morning has been brought under control.
The plane, from the Los Llanos air base, was one of two aircraft involved in a training exercise. The pilot, 30 year old Ángel Gálvez Belmonte, managed to bale out. He suffered only minor injuries in the incident and was airlifted to hospital in Albacete for treatment.
The crash started a fire in the Cañada Catena area and several homes and a local campsite had to be evacuated as strong winds fanned the flames. About 200 hectares of pine forest have so far been destroyed.
