The forest fire in the Los Pedregales park area in Estepona is still active on two fronts and has so far destroyed about 600 hectares of land and looks like it could become the biggest forest fire of the year in Málaga province.
The amount of destruction is only a rough estimate as the blaze still has to be extinguished and only then can the true extent of the damage be properly gauged. It is looking, however, that it could become the biggest forest fire of the year in Málaga province, surpassing the one in Casarabonela.
A security perimeter has been set up around the residual water treatment as a precautionary measure in case a new fire front opens up.
It is now known for certain that the fire was started intentionally and an investigation has begun. There are reports of a man fleeing the scene after starting the fire.
