Although still suffering a decline in passenger numbers during the peak August period, Málaga airport fared better than most according to the latest figures released by the airport authority AENA.
Málaga is the fourth largest airport in Spain but like almost all the others, it has suffered from the financial crisis and has seen a fall in tourist numbers compared to last year.
In August, passenger numbers were down by8.8% and the actual number of flights was down by 14.4%. In southern Spain, Málaga has fared better than all airports except for Alicante and Palma de Mallorca. Passenger numbers to Gran Canaria were down by 13%, Tenerife down by 16% and Valencia down by 15%.
