National Police officers in Jaén have detained two people suspected of defrauding 200 people in a real estate scam.
The investigation into the activities of the real estate company, a legal establishment, began after complaints were received from individuals who had paid deposits for properties but, when they asked for the return of the monies, they did not get them.
The estate agents, Manuel Carlos C.C and Pablo R.E., were requesting a €1,500 reservation fee for houses to be built on plots of land near Los Villares. The houses, once built, would cost €210,000 each.
Unfortunately, the plots of land in question were classified as non-urban land and the owner of the plots had no intention of selling and was unaware of the scam being perpetrated.
Around 200 people are thought to have been caught by the scam, parting with €350,000, and complaints have so far been received from 95 victims.
The two men made a preliminary court appearance and, after being charged with fraud, were released without bail.
