The old provincial prison in Granada is set to close later this month, the almost one hundred inmates moving to the new Centre for Social Integration (CIS).
The prison in Albolote, the scene of a few violent disturbances between prisoners and officials this summer, has also selected 60 category three inmates for transfer to the new CIS at some stage during October. Albolote is looking to try and resolve its overcrowding problem.
The CIS Granada will have a capacity of about 300 residents, and will implement various programmess and alternative punishments, such as work for the benefit of the community, designed to train and provide work to inmates once they have fulfilled their sentences.
