Real Madrid have moved to the top of the pile after thrashing newly promoted Xerez 5-0 on Sunday.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in the first minute of the game but then it wasn’t until late in the second half that the next goal arrived, also courtesy of Ronaldo. Three minutes later, Guti scored after Benzema’s shot was blocked by the Xerez keeper.
Another three minutes passed and then Benzema got himself on the scoresheet, his first official goal for the club. Ruud van Nistelrooy played his first match for a while after after a long spell of injury, or at least part of it, coming on in the 79th minute in place of Ronaldo and in the 89th minute he added another goal for Real.
Real now top the table on goal difference from Barcelona.
