The province of Huelva was number one in Andalucía and number two in Spain for hotel occupancy rates during July and August of this year.
Hotel occupancy rates actually increased in Huelva compared to the same period in 2008, reaching around the 77% mark. In the rest of Andalucía and Spain as a whole, the general overall occupancy rates were down by about 4%.
Huelva currently has 26,000 hotel beds and local businessmen believe that this should not grow beyond 35,000 at the very maximum and should preferably stay below 30,000 for the sake of the industry.
